On March 5, 2026, BYD unveiled its second-generation Blade Battery and FLASH Charging technology in Shenzhen, introducing a new approach to high-speed EV charging.
The new battery enables charging from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% takes only around three minutes longer than under normal conditions.
Beyond charging speed, the second-generation Blade Battery features more than a 5% increase in energy density compared with the previous generation. BYD has also developed high-speed lithium-ion channels and an intelligent full-temperature-range thermal management system to improve heat generation and dissipation during fast charging. When combined with vehicle lightweighting and efficiency technologies, the battery enables the DENZA Z9GT to achieve a CLTC range of up to 1,036 km.
To support this charging performance, BYD has developed its FLASH Charger with a maximum single-gun output of 1,500 kW. The system integrates energy storage technology to help manage grid capacity while supporting ultra-fast charging.
BYD also announced plans to build 20,000 FLASH Charging stations across China by the end of 2026, with overseas deployment planned as the next step.
